Ramadan

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the time of fasting (sawm) from dawn to sunset. Muslims abstain from food, drink and wrongdoing, devoting their days to prayer, reading the Quran and charity. A month of spiritual purification and closeness to Allah.
Laylat al-Qadr

The Night of Decree in the last ten nights of Ramadan, when the revelation of the Quran began. It is said that worship on this night is better than a thousand months. A time for earnest prayer, repentance and seeking forgiveness.
Eid al-Fitr

The festival of breaking the fast that closes the month of Ramadan. It begins with the festive prayer and is marked by giving zakat al-fitr to those in need, gatherings with loved ones and shared meals. A day of joy and gratitude for the completed fast.
Day of Arafah
9 Dhu al-Hijjah · May 16
The ninth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah — the climax of Hajj, when pilgrims stand in prayer at Mount Arafat. For those not performing Hajj, fasting on this day is especially valuable. It is the eve of Eid al-Adha.
Eid al-Adha

The festival of sacrifice, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim's readiness to sacrifice for the sake of Allah. The festive prayer and the qurban are performed, and the meat is shared with family and those in need. It falls during the days of Hajj.
Muharram

The first month of the Islamic calendar and the start of the new Hijri year. One of the four sacred months, in which good deeds and abstaining from sins are especially encouraged.
Ashura
10 Muharram · June 15
The tenth day of the month of Muharram. A day of fasting following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ — in gratitude for the salvation of Prophet Musa and his people. A time of repentance, mercy and good deeds.
Mawlid an-Nabi
12 Rabi al-Awwal · August 15
The birthday of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the month of Rabi al-Awwal. In many countries it is marked by reading his biography, doing good deeds and recalling his teachings and mercy toward people.
